Gramps The Vamp
Gramps The Vamp is a post apocalyptic dance party- a convergence of tight grooves and heavy thrashes, of heroic themes and villainous dirges, a bardo between the tried and tested styles of the past and the unknown frontier of the future.
This adventurous Chicago based group has been exploring the outer limits of groove based music since 2011, winning over audiences with its tight yet untamed live show.
For its 2014 self titled release, Gramps The Vamp recruited funk producer Sergio Rios (Orgone) to root the record in a familiar 70s groove-based sound, acting as a bedrock for experimentation with found sound samples from vintage cinema and radio.
Gramps The Vamp’s 2016 sophomore effort, The Cave of 10,000 Eyes, further explores the narrative aspect of their music, bridging themes across different tracks and diving deeper into their signature retro-horror/sci-fi sound.
Gramps The Vamp was named Best New Band by the Chicago Reader (2013), Best Emerging Artist by Deli Mag Chicago’s Open Submissions poll (2014), and was included in the Chicago Reader’s “Best Chicago Albums of the 2010s” list.
A stew is brewing… with fat horn lines, spooky keyboard melodies, surfy guitar riffs, tight bass grooves, wild drum beats and a grand cinematic scope. You won’t know whether to dance or let out a primal scream… why not both?
